Orienteering
We have been doing some great work over the last couple of weeks on the Orienteering and Outdoor Adventure strand of PE. We have been making a map of our classroom, following trails from maps around a course, and today we were using photos to help us find some cards hidden around the yard. We then had to fill in a symbol on a control card every time we found a card. There were four groups, we worked very well together and had great fun doing it too!

First Holy Communion
Saturday the 17th of May was a very special day in the lives of the boys and girls in Second Class. It was the day that they received Holy Communion for the very first time. They had spent a lot of time practicing and preparing in the weeks coming up to the ceremony, and all their hard work paid off on the day. Everybody agreed they looked fantastic and they were a credit to their mams and dads the way they made the ceremony so special.

Mr Kennedy would like to say a big thank you to everybody who helped make the day so special, the parents, teachers, Rosie, Carmel and Fr Mattie, the SNAs, and most of all, the children. And thank you to the parents for your very thoughtful gift also! It was very much appreciated.

School tour
Dear parents,
On Thursday the 12th of June, Second and Third
class will be going on their school tour to Energy Fun Centre in Rathcoole. A
coach will take the children to and from the venue and the tour will take place
within school hours, so children can be dropped and collected at the usual
times. Children can wear their own clothes and do not need to bring a lunch with them, as it will be provided. The
cost of the trip is €20, and this includes the cost of the coach, a meal in the
venue, and a small goodie bag. The money for this tour should be in to me by
Friday, the 6th of June. If this is an issue please come and see me
before or after school.
Regards,
Mr Kennedy

An interesting visitor
Today we had Éanna Ní Lamhna from the radio show "Mooney Goes Wild" in with us to talk about wildlife, and creepy crawlies in particular. She told us lots of interesting information about spiders, including:
- spider's legs are on their head
- they have 8 eyes
- they have a special oil on their feet to stop them getting stuck on their own web
- they are cannibals, which means they eat other spiders
- when they want to have a baby with another spider, the male will bring a dead fly with him for the female to eat, instead of getting eaten himself
- black widows are spiders in America which eat their husbands!
She answered lots of our questions and also had a few examples of tarantulas (dead ones!) to show us. Thanks for coming in to see us Éanna!

Nice jersey!
Ciara recently had the Dublin football team at her club, Parnells, and she was lucky enough to get her jersey signed by some of the players. Go on the Dubs!
